In 2023, the European Commission proposed new carbon dioxide emission standards for heavy-duty vehicles. If adopted, the new regulations would require new HDVs to cut their COâ‚‚ emissions per kilometer by ** percent by 2040, relative to 2019 levels. Heavy-duty vehicles, such as trucks and buses, account for more than a quarter of COâ‚‚ emissions from road transportation in the EU.
