The number of new passenger cars in the European Union that emit ** grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer (g COâ‚‚/km) or less increased to **** million units in 2023. This accounted for almost a quarter of all new passenger cars sold in the EU that year. Although the number of new passenger cars sold in the EU that emit between ** and *** g COâ‚‚/km increased slightly in 2023, the number of vehicles sold in this class has fallen considerably since 2019.
