Data collection of the Household Pulse Survey (Phase 3.5) took place in the following dates:
June 1 to June 13, 2022. Sample size: 62,826
June 29 to July 11, 2022. Sample size: 58,304
July 27 to August 8, 2022. Sample size: 46,801
The source categorized respondents as LGBT if their reported sex at birth differed from their current gender identity, if they identified their sexual orientation as gay, lesbian, or bisexual, or if they identified as transgender.
Non-LGBT respondents were those whose sex at birth matched their current gender identity, and who selected "Straight" when asked about their sexual orientation.

According to a 2022 survey conducted in the United States, the share of adults who experienced depression symptoms was greater among those who identified as LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender) across all age groups. As of August 8, 2022, approximately half of LGBT adults aged 18 to 29 experienced depression symptoms, compared to nearly 29 percent of non-LGBT respondents. This statistic shows the percentage of adults who reported depression symptoms in the United States in 2022, by age and LGBT status.
