Coal power emissions worldwide 2000-2023, by select country
Coal-fired power emissions in China totaled just over *** billion metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (GtCOâ‚‚e) in 2023, accounting for slightly more than half of global coal power emissions. Rapid economic growth has seen China's coal emissions increased five-fold since the turn of the century. India has also experienced significant emissions growth since 2000, with levels reaching a high of *** GtCOâ‚‚e in 2023. In comparison, coal-fired power emissions in the U.S. and EU have fallen by ** and ** percent since 2000, respectively.Â
