According to a survey conducted with people with a (partly) Afro-Surinamese and/or (partly) Caribbean background in 2023, around of those asked believed there will be sufficient recognition from the Dutch government for the involvement with slavery in the past when Keti Koti is recognized as a national holiday. Keti Koti is a national holiday in Suriname, celebrated on the first of July, marking the date when slavery was abolished.
