In 2023, Germany avoided an around *** million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e) through the use of renewables which would have otherwise been caused by the use of fossil fuels. Electricity generation from renewable sources contributed approximately ** percent of the total avoided emissions that year. The largest share of avoided emissions from renewables in Germany were from wind power, followed by solar power.
