Germany's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions were 649 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCOâ‚‚e) in 2024, an annual decrease of 3.4 percent. Overall, GHG emissions in Germany have almost halved since 1990. To reach climate targets, Germany aims to reduce emissions by at least 65 percent below 1990 levels by 2030, and reach greenhouse gas neutrality by 2045.
