When asked in 2020, roughly one third of respondents in the U.S. believed the United States should apologize for the atomic attacks on Japan during the Second World War. When split by age group, respondents were more likely to answer that the U.S. should not apologize for the attacks as they got older. For example, over half of those in the 18-24 bracket believed the U.S. should apologize while over a fifth believed they shouldn't, however the opposite was true for respondents aged 55 and over. These figures are fairly aligned with the results of whether the attacks were right or wrong.
