Spain's use of the funds it will receive from the NextGenerationEU economic recovery package is focused on investments in the green transition and digital transformation, as well as a secondary focus on smart, sustainable, and inclusive economic growth. The NextGenEU plans were devised by the EU institutions and its member states during the COVID-19 pandemic, in order to stimulate sustainable long-term growth in the European economy. Each member states was required to apply for funds through a national recovery & resilience plan, which would outline how each investment is related to two of the six policy pillars on which the plans focus on.
