the NextGenerationEU economic recovery package was decided upon by the member states and institutions of the European Union in reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic. The member states who will receive the greatest share of the funds are the larger countries who were hit particularly badly by the effects of the pandemic.
Italy, Spain and France have received the greatest funds from the programs so far, with Greece, Romania, and Portugal also receiving significant payments. Of the 27 member states, only Hungary, Ireland, the Netherlands, Poland, and Sweden are yet to receive any payment from the plan. Member states receive payments based on their national recovery plans, which set out how the funds will be used over the period from 2021 to 2026.
