The value of non-performing loans and advances in the euro area and other EU countries under the single supervisory mechanism in 2025 was much lower than in 2015. Nevertheless, the value of non-performing loans and advances increased from late 2023 to the first quarter of 2026. The total value of non-performing loans stood at over 363 billion euros as of the first quarter of 2026. Large banks were more exposed to non-performing loans in the EU than those with assets under 200 billion euros.
