What is Dry January?

Dry January means abstaining from drinking alcohol in January. The challenge started in 2013 as a health campaign delivered by Alcohol Change UK and is now considered a popular New Year’s resolution in the country. Notable benefits of taking part in Dry January that are widely highlighted include improvements to general health conditions, weight loss, and saving money.

Alcohol consumption in Great Britain

Like the rest of the world, people enjoy drinking alcohol in Great Britain, both outside and at home, and are willing to spend money on it. Particularly, in 2021, consumers spent around 27.8 billion British pounds on alcoholic beverages. Naturally, the frequencies in which people consume such drinks vary. For instance, in England, most English men and women drank once or twice a week in 2021, while only eight percent of men and five percent of women drank every day.
