Citation formats

Japan’s central bank policy rate stood at *** percent in June 2026, following a gradual normalization of monetary policy after years of ultra-loose conditions. In March 2024, the Bank of Japan raised short-term interest rates for the first time in 17 years, formally ending its negative interest rate policy. From August 2024 onward, the central bank guided the uncollateralized overnight call rate to remain around **** percent. A further rate increase in January 2025 lifted the policy rate to *** percent, where it remained through the end of 2025 and beginning of 2026.
