According to a survey conducted in 2023, more than ** percent of the respondents, which consisted of mining and metals executives across the globe, claimed that the metals and mining sector's impact on local communities would be facing the most scrutiny from investors in 2024. Other environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) issues that greatly concerned stakeholders in the industry were tailings and waste management and water stewardship.
