Fit for 55 is a package of policy initiatives aimed at reducing the European Union's net greenhouse gas emissions by 55 percent by 2030. The package was proposed in July 2021.

Hydrogen use in the European Union is set to rise considerably in accordance with the RePowerEU plan. Under this scheme meant to end the EU's reliance on Russian fossil fuels by 2030, the EU is expected to consume around metric tons of hydrogen in 2030. This is in comparison to a consumption of roughly *** metric tons proposed under the European Commission's Fit for ** plan, which predates RePowerEU.
