In the past decade, inpatients generally spent fewer days in cancer hospitals in China, with the average length of stays shortened from **** days in 2012 to less than days in 2021. Many treatments and procedures, including chemotherapy, are now carried out in outpatient departments, reducing the burdens of inpatient care in hospitals. The demand for cancer treatments rose significantly in recent years. Chinese cancer hospitals were under increasing pressure, with the occupancy rates of beds constantly exceeding 100 percent until 2019.
