In 2018, tobacco use was the leading attributable risk factor to the cancer burden in Australia. That year, over ** disability adjusted life years, or DALYs, were attributed to tobacco use. DALYs are used to measure the burden of a disease, or years of healthy life lost, by combining years of life lost with years of life lived with disability. Other leading risk factors included being overweight or obese, alcohol use, diet-related risks, and high sun exposure.
