Many lawmakers seeking reelection in the United States 2022 midterm elections are dependent on money raised by Political Action Committees (PACs). The top Democrat receiving funds from PACs was Chuck Schumer of New York, receiving 3.5 million USD for his reelection campaign, nearly one million dollars more than the second most highest receiver of PAC money, Ron Wyden of Oregon. Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, Patty Murray of Washington State, and Catherine Cortez Mastro of Nevada all received more than two million dollars from PACs.
In U.S. politics, a PAC is an organization that gathers campaign contributions from members and donates those funds to campaigns for the purpose of electing or defeating a candidate running for office. Most PACs represent business, or ideological interests.
