In April 2024, Americans were surveyed on how much student loan debt they think should be forgiven. The most popular response amongst Republicans was that no student loan debt should be forgiven. Amongst Democrats, the most popular response was that all debt should be forgiven. However, more Democrats than Republicans assigned a certain amount to the level of forgiveness they would like to see. 14 percent of Democrats indicated around 50,000 U.S. dollars as being an acceptable amount.Â
