During a survey conducted in Mexico at the end of August 2021, respondents were asked if the government or organized crime were the main threats for journalists not to report certain information. Almost ** percent of the interviewees said organized crime was the main source of pressure against journalistic work. Around ** percent stated that it was the government. In 2021, Mexico was the Latin American country where most journalists were killed.
