It is a snapshot of the press freedom situation based on an evaluation of the ability of journalists in each country and region as individuals and collectives to select, produce, and disseminate news in the public interest independent of political, economic, legal, and social interference and in the absence of threats to their physical and mental safety. It is not an indicator of the quality of journalism in each country or region.

From 85.01 to 100 points: Good situation
From 70.01 to 85 points: Satisfactory situation

From 0 to 40 points: Very serious situation
