In 2021, every doctor in Chinese psychiatric hospitals treated, on average, more than ** inpatients per day. The figure is almost **** times higher than the average among all hospitals, demonstrating the chronic challenge facing the mental healthcare sector in the country. Although the number of psychiatric hospitals grew significantly in the past decade, the demand for treatments also rose considerably. Due to the nature of mental conditions, many patients need to remain in hospitals for long periods, adding burdens to hospitals and their staff.
