In recent years, travel companies worldwide have shown an increasing interest in the subscription model, with some businesses starting to introduce either monthly or annual membership plans. While these schemes vary significantly in terms of offers and fees, they generally include more flexibility when booking trips or accommodation, as well as members-only discounts and perks. In June 2021, travel company Tripadvisor introduced a subscription-based plan, Tripadvisor Plus, offering members rate discounts on accommodation and travel bookings for an annual fee of ** U.S. dollars. Just three months after the launch, however, the firm announced major changes to the original program, replacing the discounts with cash-back benefits.
