After the Taliban took over Afghanistan in August 2021, over ** percent of respondents in Kazakhstan and nearly ** percent in Uzbekistan were against recognizing the group as the legitimate Afghan government, according to a survey from August and September of the same year. While large shares of respondents could not answer the question, the portion of those who believed their countries should recognize the Taliban government reached ** percent and ** percent in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, respectively.
