A survey conducted in Ireland in 2020 asked parents and carers if they made use of technical mediation and parental controls, as well as asking children if they were aware of their parents and carers use of such measures. Overall, 83 percent of parents said that they set rules about how long or when their children were allowed to go online, whereas 70 percent of children said that such rules were in place. Additionally, 61 percent of parents said that they used parental controls to keep track of the content and apps that their child looks at, whilst 55 percent of children were aware of this being used by their parents on their devices. Furthermore, 33 percent of parents said they used technology to track their child's whereabouts, and 28 percent of children said that their parents used this technology.
