A survey conducted in the United States between September and November 2020 found that the most important factor respondents considered when deciding to buy books was the book's genre or category, with 39.8 percent of adults saying that this would influence their decision. By comparison, very few survey participants took into account the front or back cover of a book when considering a purchase, and even fewer paid attention to the book's publisher.
