The total value of green investments of sovereign wealth funds (SWFs) worldwide increased considerably between 2015 and 2020, despite some fluctuations throughout the years. The value peaked at almost *** billion U.S. dollars in 2020. Until 2019, the majority of SWFs' green investments came from savings funds, and as of 2020, these funds alone invested *** billion U.S. dollars in green sectors. That same year, however, green investments of hybrid SWFs and development/strategic SWFs increased markedly, which was the main contributing factor to the growth in green investments that year.
