Supplementary notes
The source defines people living in severe poverty as those living in households which earn less than 40 percent of the median rent per consumption unit. As of 2023, that included those living in a household whose total income per consumption unit was below 7,326 euros per year (611 euros per month). In the case of a family formed by two adults and two children, for example, that would imply a total income of 1,283 euros per month for the whole household.
