*Summer vacation period usually spans from July 15 to August 31, with the exception of 2021, when the period was reduced by five days to start on July 20.
Figures are comprised of domestic travel expenses and outbound travel expenses.
Business related trips were excluded for domestic trips but included for international travels.
For domestic travel expenditure, transport costs, lodging expenses, souvenir costs, dining costs, etc. were included. For outbound travel, figures also include fuel surcharges but exclude souvenirs bought on foreign soil.

According to a survey conducted in June 2025 in Japan, an estimated **** trillion Japanese yen were spent during the summer vacation period spanning from July 15 to August 31 on travel and tourism by Japanese people. The travel expenditure recovered to pre-pandemic levels.
