While Reddit is widely known for the freedom it gives users to create topic-oriented communities, the platform is also highly active in moderating its content. In the first half of 2025, a total of 430,544 Reddit communities were removed. Spam accounted for the vast majority of bans, with 316,399 subreddits taken down for this reason. In addition, more than 110,000 subreddits were removed due to a lack of active moderation.
