"The 2002 and 2021 surveys use slightly different ways to identify party supporters. In 2002, Canadians were asked: “In federal politics, do you usually think of yourself as a supporter of the [list of parties].” In 2021, they were asked: “If a Canadian federal election were held today, which one of the following parties would you vote for?”"

Since 2002, federal Liberal Party supporters' trust in the leaders of environmental groups has declined only slightly. In contrast, trust among conservative parties' supporters - which in 2002 included both the Progressive Conservative Party and the Canadian Alliance - was much lower in 2021 than in 2002. Confidence in the leaders of environmental groups today is ** points lower than in 2002 among PC party supporters. Thus, the gap between federal and opposition supporters regarding confidence in leaders of environmental groups is wider today than it was in 2002.
