Climate change impact on Canadians' meat and fish consumption 2019, by age and gender
Climate change and environmental consciousness are among the most regularly cited reasons for people switching towards meat-free and plant-based diets. Over half of Canadians aged 18 to 24 plan on eating more plant-based products in 2019, and sales of these products are increasing.
In 2019, more than two thirds of vegetarians, vegans or flexitarians aged 18-34 said they were eating this way for environmental reasons (70 percent for men and 67 percent for women). However, this proportion was lower among older people.
