In 2021, 70 percent of the spending on travel and tourism in Panama was generated through international tourism. Domestic spending only amounted to 30 percent of the total. The COVID-19 pandemic harshly affected the flow of international tourists worldwide. The recovery of this tourism segment in Panama could take around five years.
