Impact of the coronavirus on tourist spending in Italy 2020-2024, by scenario
A study from December 2020 analyzed the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on international and domestic tourist spending in Italy from 2020 to 2024. It presented three alternative scenarios. According to the baseline scenario, total tourist spending would experience a drop of ** billion euros in 2020 over the previous year. Then, the international tourist spending would return to the 2019 level only by 2022.
The upside scenario, which considers a faster recovery, forecast a decrease of ** billion euros in 2020. Finally, the downside scenario, supposing a slower recovery, estimated a decrease of *** billion euros in 2020.
