Two months prior to the Dutch General election of 2021, the Dutch government resigned over a scandal involving child benefits, in which several thousand parents were wrongly accused of committing fraud and made to pay back thousands of Euros in legitimate benefits. According to a survey conducted around the time of the government's resignation, 33 percent of Dutch voters thought that this was the correct thing to do.
