In 2016 the chemical industry in France produced around 1.3 million metric tons of hazardous waste.
In 2018, over thirty percent of the identified ground and soil pollution involves petroleum hydrocarbons, and 23 percent involve heavy metals and metalloids. Radioactive substances represented 0 percent even though it is the primary source of energy in the country.
