In China, China National Tobacco Corporation (“China Tobacco” or “CNTC”) holds a state-chartered monopoly over the production and sales of tobacco products. It manages thousands of branches at various administrative levels, which operate as growers, manufacturers, suppliers, or traders. The company is a cornerstone of China’s tax revenue. In 2025, the total profit and tax from the Chinese tobacco industry exceeded **** trillion yuan.

Chinese smokers

Although there are about 104 males per 100 females in China, the number of male smokers is estimated to be more than ** times that of female smokers.
