As of 2024, the Netherlands' electricity produced from hard coal stood at 7.49 terawatt hours. Coal was one of the largest sources of electricity generation in the Netherlands up until 2018. However, since then, coal electricity production has notably decreased. In 2020, figures had dropped by 57 percent compared to the previous year, and reached the record low of the period under consideration. Coal use has been mainly offset by greater reliance on power generated using gas turbines.
