Coal power generation worldwide grew to approximately 10,470 terawatt hours in 2025. This was slightly lower than the figure a year ago when the highest figure in the 24-year period shown. Coal electricity production in China is responsible for more than half of the worldwide total, having reached over 5,750 terawatt hours that year.Â
