As of November 2019, about ** percent of health insurance companies in India believed that the effectiveness of the Ayushman Bharat scheme was limited due to the challenges on ground to implement. On the other hand, ** percent felt that the scheme was a transformative reform that would improve the current process for all stakeholders.

Ayushman Bharat

The Ayushman Bharat scheme launched in 2018 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The program’s overarching goal is to alleviate poverty by addressing the health care needs of the economically weaker sections of society. The implementation of the scheme has been a response to the fulfilling India’s target of the Sustainable Developmental Goal * which promises universal health coverage, along with medical access and use of safe vaccines for all.

The national digital health mission (NDHM)

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare disbursed a budget of over *** billion Indian rupees for the launch of the NDHM in August 2020. The mission aims to develop the central hub necessary to support an integrated digital health infrastructure. The purpose of this is to bridge the gap between different stakeholders within the healthcare ecosystem. Recently, ODEs have been built to support this mission. Some elements within this include Aadhaar IDs, interoperability, and automated processes for claim settlement issues along with cashless transactions.
