Land footprint per kilogram of food produced 2018, by product type
Producing red meat requires far more land compared to other meat products. It takes *** square meters to produce just one kilogram of beef (beef herd), compared to ** square meters to produce a kilogram of poultry meat. It is not just land that is heavily impacted by beef. Greenhouse gas emissions from beef production are far higher than other food products, with one kilogram producing the equivalent ** kilograms of carbon dioxide .
