As a result, the expenditure of international tourists in the continent declined by more than ** percent in 2020 and 2021 in comparison to 2019. The region that registered the highest losses was South America: the inbound tourism spending went down by more than ** percent in 2020 versus pre-pandemic levels. In 2021, this change was at ** percent.
