Over the past years, a number of the world's largest banks have made commitments to contributing towards a more sustainable future. Each bank that made such commitments did so in varying degrees. On a broad scale, these commitments are focused in main areas covering environment, society and governance, and mainly follow the guidelines set out in the 2015 Paris Agreement.

A part of the commitments made by Standard Chartered bank plc was the ambition to reduce the amount of scope * and * greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) per full-time employee by ** percent from a baseline set in 2012 to a target date of 2050. As of 2019, the bank had reduced greenhouse gas emissions worldwide by ** percent. In 2019, the bank had reportedly met **** percent of their total sustainable goals.
