Greenhouse gas emissions in Japan - statistics & facts
Even though Japan has reduced its annual greenhouse gas emissions since their peak in 2013, it remains one of the largest polluters in the world. The effects of global warming, accelerated by greenhouse gas emissions, are already impacting Japan. Environmental changes, such as the increasing average temperature in Tokyo and the rising annual average rainfall, can lead to intensified natural disasters such as heat waves or typhoons. Furthermore, the emission of greenhouse gases, which caused over 52,000 air pollution-related deaths in Japan in recent years.
