The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic had a significant impact on the Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) of the sports betting market in Italy. Due to the emergency and the national lockdown, at the beginning of March 2020 all sports championships were suspended as well as sports betting shops were closed. As a consequence of this, the GGR decreased by roughly ** percent in March 2020, compared to 2019. Especially, sports bets did not register any GGR in both April and May, as the gross revenues decreased by 100 percent compared to the previous year.
