Italians do not ride bikes very often. But why is that? A survey conducted in May 2020 revealed what Italians feel are the greatest barriers to bike use. For people who would not use a bike at all before the 2020 COVID-lockdown, the main reason indicated was the fact that *** (** percent). At the second place (** percent) came the fear that . This was actually the top reason indicated by the group of occasional bikers, with ** percent of the respondents choosing this option. Unsafe roads were a concern for occasional bikers too, with ** percent of the people interviewed indicating it as a disincentive to bike use.
