In 2020, nearly ** percent of the Tunisian respondents believed that the government should be able to ban any publication and press release that it does not approve. According to the same survey, a similar share of respondents (** percent) agreed that the media should be free from government control. Similar opinions were registered in the previous years, except for 2013. During that period, only ** percent of the surveyed population was in favor of the government's interference in the media industry. In 2021, Tunisia was the North African country with the highest levels of press freedom.
