In the nine months to September 2020, new issuers on the green bonds market in Europe issued green bonds with a total value of billion U.S. dollars. Not all green bonds are certified. In fact, less than ** percent of the value of the green bonds issued by new issuers over this period were certified. To September 2020, green bonds issued by debut non-financial corporate issuers worth almost *** billion U.S. dollars were certified as climate bonds, while and almost ** billion U.S. dollars were not certified. Green bonds are fixed income securities which finance investments with environmental or climate-related benefits.
