Green bonds are fixed income securities which finance investments with environmental or climate-related benefits. In the nine months through to September 2020, Italy was the country in Europe with the highest value of green bonds issued by companies debuting on the green bond market, at at total of of *** billion U.S. dollars. In 2019 the leader was Sweden with **** billion U.S. dollars, however the 2020 value of Swedish debut green bond issuers was much lower at ** million U.S. dollars.
