During the coronavirus (COVID-19) emergency in Italy, schools and other educational institutions suspended their classes. This situation led schools to move their classes online. Since most institutions were not prepared for such a fast switch, online classes were not activated nationwide uniformly. According to a survey published in , Emilia-Romagna was the Italian region assuring the largest share of digital classes in the country. On the contrary, less than half of the classes in Sardinia took place online.
In a further survey from , most Italian respondents believed that this situation will encourage schools and universities to provide their services through digital media more in the future.
